If I get the insurance on a rental car, what does entitle me to do?

I’m at the car rental agency and they want to sell me insurance on the car. I hate to pay for something if I don’t use it. What kind of damage can I do to the car?

As a former manager at a car rental company, I must point out that there are specific rules outlining things that may invalidate a car rental company’s policy. You may only drive the car in a legal manner, abiding by the rules set forth in the rental agreement. Intentional acts to abuse the car, driving off-road, allowing unauthorized drivers to operate the vehicle and violations of traffic laws could invalidate any "insurance" you have purchased from the rental car company. I use the word "insurance" because that is the word you have used in your question. Rental car companies do not sell car insurance, they sell damage waivers.
